I’m actually on target with my word count…I know! I’m shocked too! My goal this year was to be on target by Thanksgiving so if I fell a little behind this weekend, I wouldn’t be stressing to finish. So, I decided to do another fun blog post in celebration – a bunch of questions about me as an author! Enjoy 🙂
#1 What do you eat or drink while writing? – I am currently trying to lose weight. I’ve been trying hard to not over indulge while I sit for long periods of time, because that’s just not good for you. However, chocolate is life…so I sneak some chocolate every once and a while. As far as drinks – I drink a lot of water and tea…and wine. But I don’t overdue it on the wine while I’m writing because that just makes for longer editing the next day.
#2 What do you listen to while writing? – I’ve been really into Lindsey Stirling lately. I gravitate towards music that doesn’t have a lot of lyrics because sometimes singing throws me off and I end up listening to the song instead of writing.
#3 What is your biggest distraction while you’re writing? – Twitter. Not even posting on twitter, because if you follow me, I’m sure you’re aware that I am a Twitter failure. I just get sucked into reading other peoples tweets. I can’t have it open at all if I’m going to write.
#4 What is the worst thing that has happened to you while writing? – Honestly, nothing comes to mind for this question. Knock on wood, I haven’t deleted or lost anything. I guess the worst thing that happened was getting a new job. I can’t call getting a new job a bad thing though, since I need to eat and pay rent. I have a lot less time to write when I work full time. It is what it is for now.
#5 What is the best thing that has ever happened to you while writing? – The day things started coming together with my story. This has happened a couple times and it’s a fantastic feeling. I’m not just writing a bunch of jumbled stuff anymore – I’m writing a cohesive story.
#6 Who do you communicate with while you’re writing? My husband, Paul. Every time I get stuck, I go to him. He’s not an avid fantasy reader. In fact, we have very different likes when it comes to books…but he’s great to go to. He tells it like it is. If an idea sucks, he doesn’t let me continue wasting my time.
#7 What is your secret to success and your biggest writing flaw? – I’ll let you know my secret to success when I get there. My biggest writing flaw is editing while I go. I have a hard time not nit-picking and obsessing over small details.
#8 What is your inspiration? What makes you productive? – My inspiration and what makes me productive are one in the same. I want to be a full time author and make a living telling stories. What keeps me going is the fact that I really feel like this is an attainable goal and I can’t wait to see where life takes me!
#9 What is one thing that you do or that other writers do that is super annoying? – Hm. I guess I don’t love listening to writers who think they are better than everyone else. If you are cocky, I don’t really want to associate with you.
#10 Are you willing to share something you’ve written? – I have, and I will once NaNo is finished. I’ve re-worked my first chapter quite a bit and I’m ready for the next go-round of sharing it on the blog. Also, you’re more than welcome to check out my poetry on AllPoetry. The recent stuff is better, but I haven’t had much time to focus on poetry and haven’t posted anything new in a year or so. Maybe someday I’ll release a poetry book.
#11 Where is your favorite place to write? – I just got a new desk from work. I love it. It’s my own space and I can’t wait to decorate it up a bit.
#12 Coffee or Tea? – Tea. I know I’m going to get some hate for this, but I cannot stand coffee. I like the way it smells, but I hate the way it tastes. It’s unfortunate because I know so many people praise it. I guess I’m a weirdo.
#13 Favorite Book of All Time? – That’s a tough call..”of all time” is a very committed answer. I’ll just go with my favorite book recently read, which is Illuminae.
#14 NaNoWriMo, Yes or No? – Yep! I’m doing NaNo this year.
#15 If you could only write in one genre for the rest of your life, what would it be? – I guess I’d go with Fantasy. It’s such a vast and exciting genre, I feel like I would never run out of ideas. However, I will not be writing in the same genre for the rest of my life…I want to branch out and try new things.
#16 If you could have one super power, what would it be? – Invisibility.
#17 Favorite author? – Stephen King.
#18 If you could live anywhere, where would it be? – I love New York…I really do, but I despise the winter. I’m aware that other areas around the world have worse weather, like hurricanes and tsunamis, but in my little Upstate NY world, the snow is AWFUL. So, if you were to ask me this question in the summer, I would say I would never want to move. You’re asking me in the winter though, so right now my answer is anywhere south and warm.
#19 What do you do when you get writers block? – Power through. I still need to get my word count in and I’ll need to go back and edit everything anyway. Written junk is better than nothing written at all.
That’s it. I hope you enjoy learning a bit more about me. I’m jumping back into writing now. If I don’t type again, I hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving!!! 🙂
Until next time –
