Hi everyone!

Today is my stop on the Josie James and the Teardrops of Summer blog tour!

Josie James is an ordinary 13 year old until something extraordinary happens during her summer holidays.

Whist staying at her Great Grandmother’s cottage in the country she finds herself swept into the cursed world of Suncroft where it is perpetual winter.

Her new friends believe she could be the Chosen One who it is foretold will lift the curse, but there are more pressing matters.

The Teardrops of Summer – magical crystals that render the owner immortal – have been stolen. Along with her telepathic husky-dog Protector Asher and her new friends, Josie must race to find the
Teardrops and prevent catastrophe for their world.

Review:

I don’t always read middle grade, but when I do, I hope it is as good as Josie James and the Teardrops of Summer! If I had an 8-10 year old, I most definitely would share this with him or her. Even though it is aimed toward a younger crowd, as an adult I was sucked in and loved every second of it.

Josie is such a great protagonist. She is bold and determined, yet self-aware for a 13 year old. She read as a 13 year old, and I love that. Lily Mae Walters has created a very relatable and relistic cast of characters that feel real and feel as if they are the ages they are supposed to be. I think that is so important for middle grade novels, and this is done exceedingly well here.

The world building of Suncroft is fantastic. It’s a story of stumbling upon a magical world inside our own, but it is a very unique world and one unlike anything I’ve read in recent memory. I’m a huge fan of the fantasy elements of this story intermingled with a mistery Josie James needs to solve. The pacing is great. The beginning of the book is a sort of slow burn, as you learn the characters and the worlds, and then picks up the pace at the end. I could not put this one down!

I highly recommend this middle grade novel as something you can read with your children or read as an adult and be swept away into a magical world!
