This is such a colorful and fun book, filled with interesting facts about bugs that I never would have known. This would be an excellent book to discover things about nature with your child, and even as an adult, you’ll learn things too.

I love all of the pictures and illustrations in the book. It would definitely keep a curious child occupied. There are also links for extra information, which I think is excellent.

I can’t find anything to fault with Do Bugs Wear Shoes? I highly recommend checking it out with your child and learning something new.

Our founders, Anthony Puttee and Addie Broussard, love to travel. Anthony’s favorite trip was to Antarctica and he has included some of his personal photos in this book. The idea for Do Bugs Wear Shoes came from a playful team meeting on a rooftop in Mexico.

BLOG TOUR | Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil – Mary Fan

Hey everyone!

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil
Mary Fan
(Flynn Nightsider, #1)
Publication date: May 15th 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Break the enchantments. Find the truth. Ignite the revolution.

A century ago, the Enchanters defeated the evil Lord of the Underworld, but not before he’d unleashed his monsters and ravaged the earth. The Enchanters built the Triumvirate out of what remained of the United States, demanding absolute obedience in exchange for protection from the lingering supernatural beasts.

Sixteen-year-old Flynn Nightsider, doomed to second-class life for being born without magic, knows the history as well as anyone. Fed up with the Triumvirate’s lies and secrecy, he longs for change. And when he stumbles across a clue that hints at something more – secrets in the dark, the undead, and buried histories – he takes matters into his own hands.

Before long, Flynn finds himself hunted not only by the government, but also by nightmarish monsters and a mysterious man with supernatural powers … all seeking him for reasons he cannot understand. Rescued by underground rebels, he’s soon swept up in their vision of a better world, guided by a girl as ferocious as the monsters she fights. But as the nation teeters on the brink of revolution, Flynn realizes three things.

The rebellion is not what it seems.

Flynn himself might be more than he seems.

And the fate of the world now rests in his hands.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks

Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil is an interesting fantasy, with unique monsters, a captivating world, fun characters and nonstop action.

Mary Fan has created a really cool world, with a caste system. I enjoyed her use of description, but it did at times, get a little overbearing. Sometimes I wanted less description and more action, but there is no doubt that this is a solidly built world with lots of layers.

Flynn Nightsider is part of the lowest caste. He is well-intentioned and hardworking, and made for a fun hero to read.

There were twists and turns, and action galore. I was not bored reading this one. I’m anticipating reading the next book, where I am sure the story will grow. Highly recommend checking this one out.

Author Bio:

Mary Fan lives in New Jersey, where she is currently working in financial marketing. She has also resided in North Carolina, Hong Kong, and Beijing, China. She has been an avid reader for as long as she can remember and especially enjoys the infinite possibilities and out-of-this-world experiences of science fiction and fantasy.

Mary has a B.A. in Music, specializing in composition, from Princeton University and enjoys writing songs as much as writing stories. She also enjoys kickboxing, opera singing, and exploring new things–she’ll try almost anything once.

BOOK BLITZ | Alive? – Melissa Woods

Melissa Woods
(The Alive? Series, #1)
Published by: Clean Teen Publishing
Publication date: October 30th 2018
Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Science Fiction, Young Adult, Zombies

Everyone knows the first rule of the zombie apocalypse: Don’t. Get. Bitten.

Too bad Violet has never been great at following the rules. Walking home after a night of partying, she manages to let one of the Dead take a chunk out of her only hours after they’ve begun walking again. Fortunately for Violet, she doesn’t die. Unfortunately for Violet—she’s not exactly alive, either.

Violet’s body is undergoing changes, and suddenly the taste of human flesh is not as revolting as it once sounded. Controlling her new urges will be hard. Living with survivors who have no idea will be even harder. And the real zombies? They still want to eat her, too…

Surviving the zompocalypse is tricky when you play for both teams.

New from author Melissa Woods, Alive? is a heart-pounding adventure with suspenseful plot twists, complex characters, and a dash of dark humor. Gritty and raw, Alive? is sure to keep you guessing, and will delight zombie apocalypse fans everywhere.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

A creak of floorboards. Violet opened her eyes just in time to see a woman lunge. She was wearing a white lace nightie, offset slightly by the gaping wound in her stomach. Violet held out her arms, pushing back with all her strength. She barely had any left, but it was just enough to keep the zombie at bay. The woman’s eyes were almost white, and her teeth snapped in Violet’s face. Though she had no idea what caused this or why it was happening, she knew this thing wanted to kill her.

Her arms were hurting, but she continued to fight. The zombie moved her head suddenly, sinking her teeth into Violet’s left arm, just below the elbow. She screamed as teeth tore through her skin.

It was worse than any pain she’d ever experienced—sharp and brutal. She kicked out, catching the woman in the stomach and pushing her back. Violet ran, clutching her bleeding arm against her chest. She had no idea where the back door was, so she ran up the stairs. When she saw the bathroom up ahead, she threw herself inside.

The door slammed shut, and Violet saw a man click the lock into place as she dropped onto the floor by the sink. He was normal, not dead like the others. There was a hammering at the wood, rattling the frame. The man grabbed a towel, hurriedly wrapping Violet’s arm. She wanted to thank him, but her eyes felt heavy. Within seconds, everything was black.

Author Bio:

Writer, primary school teacher, zompocalyptic obsessive.

Melissa Woods is the author of ‘Alive?’, a young adult zombie adventure story, set for release on October 30th 2018.

BLOG TOUR | The Visionary – Jo Michaels

Title: The Visionary
Author: Jo Michaels

Genre: Urban Fiction/Apocalyptic Fiction

Editor: Tia Silverthorne Bach with INDIE Books Gone Wild

Publication Date: October 22nd, 2018

Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

It’s one year until the apocalypse of 12.21.12 is supposed to take place.

Burning buildings, screaming babies, and death will surround us.

It will be the end of the world.

That can’t be allowed.

When six powerful women come together with one goal—to save humanity—they’ll get much more than they bargained for. They join forces and learn to use the gifts hidden within themselves to battle a monster feeding off something too many of us feel in our souls: Hate. But they must first learn how to forgive—themselves as well as others.

Hate is birthing a creature dwelling under Central Park in New York, and the fiend is eager to burst forth and sink his fangs into the Earth.

The Fury, The Visionary, The Beguiler, The Siren, The Prophet, and The Mystic are our last hope, and even they aren’t sure if they can win.

The end is coming, but with it, there may be a new beginning.

Continuing on in The Hate Apocalypse series, we have The Visionary. We are joined once again by familiar characters from The Fury, but are also introduced to Lilly.

I really like Lilly as a character. I love how conscious she is to not let her modeling career get to her head. She works hard to be who she is, but she also wants to be a stable, friendly human as well.

Jo Michaels writing is fabulous once again. This is another short novella, and it packs a punch. The plot kept me on my toes, and I’m really enjoying this series so far. I cannot wait to read the next story.

Jo Michaels is…

Hi, I’m Jo. Let’s forget all the “Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah” stuff and just go with it. I’m a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.

I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.

At the risk of sounding cliché, I’m going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I’m married to. Along with my children, he’s my whole world.

I’ve lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I’ve had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I’ve written about in Yassa.

One of my favorite things is hearing from fans! You can find me on social media most any day of the week. Connect! I’d love to hear from you.

Chapter 1 ~ Charmed

Lily Conyers sat in her yellow BMW convertible and stared at the beach where her friends were playing in the surf. Kat fell down and came up with a red face and a scowl. Lily tossed her head back and laughed aloud; she figured Bea had tripped the girl. Those two were always going head-to-head. What silly things women do to one another out of a desire to win at nothing in particular.

After watching a few more minutes, Lily tilted her seat back and closed her eyes. She knew she led a great life. For her twentieth birthday, she’d attended no less than ten parties at various celebrities’ houses. There were a lot of people that would pay to have a model of her caliber show up at their parties, but she never accepted money for her appearances. Those shindigs were usually the ones where heavy drug use was the order of the night. There were often a lot of narcotics on hand at the cheaper parties as well, but she never partook, and no one seemed to mind. At the pricier parties, it was expected she’d use. That wasn’t her bag. She’d seen what it did to careers and wanted no part of it.

It was the people in the modeling business who weren’t successful yet that she loved being around most. They still knew how to have a good time without getting blasted out of their minds.

Being over five-foot-five was certainly an asset, but a girl didn’t have to be tall if she could project properly. Lily was considered above average with her five-foot-ten-inch frame, and she knew the other girls envied her face, hair, and body. That envy made her feel good about being Lily, but she was careful not to be a bitch about it.

Not that she didn’t work for it. She spent hours in the gym with her personal trainer every day and at least two hours a twice a month at the salon and spa near her beach house.

“There’s no such thing as natural beauty,” Denarius said every time she visited him. It had a ring of truth to it. A person couldn’t expect to put in no effort and just be fabulous all the time. Of course, the raw material had to be good to begin with. She had that in spades.

She hadn’t wanted to come to the beach, but something told her if she didn’t, she’d regret it later. So far it’d been a wash.

“Hey, beautiful,” said a male voice nearby.

Without even so much as a glance at the speaker, Lily flipped her middle finger in the direction it had come from. She didn’t need man trouble. Her boyfriend was a supermodel, too, and he’d hit the roof if he caught her with some low-life. Best not to chance it.

Figuring she looked tempting with one bare leg hanging out of the car, she pulled it in and shut the door. It was better to be incognito than invite trouble in and feed it cookies.

She sighed as she thought about Wilhelm. He had the whole package: intelligence, good-looks, loyalty, and he was in the same line of work. They’d done a number of campaigns together for high-profile clients. Every shoot was new in its own way, and they rocked their photographer’s world by coming up with interesting poses never before seen.

Wilhelm had been in her life for over three years. They’d met in their junior year of high school and had gotten their first job together not long after. Never thinking about dating him, she was surprised when he’d asked her out the day they graduated. It was a whirlwind romance, and he’d been by her side through a lot of tough times.

His mother kept asking when he was going to propose. They’d both usually blush and look away but never denied they were thinking of going in that direction. Even though he’d been great to Lily, she knew something was holding him back. What it was, only time would tell. Maybe he wanted to wait until after the two-year mark. After all, it hadn’t even been a year yet since they had that first date. She sighed and gazed for a minute at her left hand where an engagement ring might sit, imagining what a sparkly diamond would look like with her fabulous manicure.

Lily moved her seat to the upright position and stared at the waves with longing before hopping out of the car and running toward her friends in the water. They played and splashed in the surf for a little while until she started to feel the sun through her SPF sixty. She suggested they all get out of the heat for a bit by visiting their favorite restaurant on the pier, Scats.

Kat spoke up and sounded like an ambulance when she began to whine. “Guyyyyys. Noooooooooo. I don’t want go sit in therrrrre.”

Lily rolled her eyes; she hated whining. “Okay, Kat, calm down. What did you want to do?”

Bea turned away from Kat with an eye roll as well.

“I wanna go flirt with boys.” Kat had a wicked gleam in her eyes.

“No. We have that party later, and you’ll have plenty of guys to flirt with there. I can feel my damned skin melting off my bones. I’d think you wouldn’t want a sunburn on the day you’re gonna meet a bunch of, like, huge name photographers. Russell James is coming!” Lily threw her hands out to the sides to make her point.

Kat dropped her head and stuck out her bottom lip. It was that pout that landed her the modeling contract she had.

Lily wasn’t buying it; she’d seen it too many times before. “Stop that. Grow up.”

Kat shot a scathing glance, her pout turning from “poor me” to “screw you” in under a second.

Lily decided she was too tired to be at the beach anyway and begged off with the excuse she needed to rest before the late night so she’d look like the model she was. There wasn’t even a suggestion flung out for the other girls to do the same; she knew they would because they’d want to try and outshine her. After air kissing everyone goodbye, she dried off, got in the car, and pulled out of the lot.

She drove home in a good mood, listening to the radio full-blast and letting her hair get whipped around by the wind. One song later, and she pulled into the garage, closing the door behind her.

Her phone began to ring when she placed her purse on the island in the kitchen, and she scrambled for it, knowing it was Wilhelm.

“Hello, you sexy, sexy man!” she said by way of greeting.

“Hi, gorgeous; you comin’ to the party tonight?”

“You know it. I wouldn’t miss this one for the world. I just walked in. Long day at the beach with the bratty bunch.” She laughed at her own joke.

“I know what you mean. Those girls rub me the wrong way.”

For a split-second, she wondered if that was an innuendo for something else.

After sitting for an hour with her thoughts and watching the girl next door, Lily decided to do the decent thing, and she took her beach umbrella down, stuck it in the sand, and opened it over the girl’s sleeping form before stumbling back to the house. Grabbing the empty tumbler, Lily staggered through the door, put the container on the bar, and collapsed on the couch.

She was awakened hours later by the doorbell ringing. Her head pounded behind her eyes as she fumbled her way to the door, cursed the locks, and jerked it open to find the weird tattooed girl standing there.

“Can I help you?” Lily asked.

“Yeah, are you the one this umbrella belongs to?” The girl thrust the umbrella out.

“I am.”

“Well, thanks for putting it up out there for me. I would’ve been burned to a crisp if not for you.” She winked, stuck out her hand, and introduced herself. “I’m Markaza Turner. Nice to meet you…?”

The end sounded like a question, so Lily responded, “Lily Conyers.”

“Yes! That’s what the label said. Sorry.”

She then reached her hand out and took Markaza’s. A look crossed her face like Lily had used a stun gun instead of a hand. She tried to let go, but Markaza seemed to be in some sort of a trance or something and had one hell of a grip. When she finally snapped out of it, Lily withdrew her hand and shivered. Something about that encounter was strange, and she wondered what had just happened.

She narrowed her eyes. “Just put the umbrella on the back porch, please. Thanks for bringing it back.” With that, she backed up, shut the door, and ran to a window nearby to watch what Markaza would do next.

She stood looking at the door for a long moment, as if she were willing it to open back up, before tucking the umbrella under her arm and heading around to the deck at the back of the house.

Lily followed the movements from the inside to make sure nothing got stolen.

Sky high cliffs, the serene Hudson River, and blue skies

surrounded them. Seagulls screeched overhead as they made their

way up the wide, winding path. Maggie jumped out of the way as

a cyclist whizzed past.

He grabbed her waist, holding her tight. “You need to watch

out for those guys. They can be relentless around here.”

Didn’t she know it. The local roads were dominated by the

cyclists in the warm weather. More than once in the past few

weeks, Maggie had to pull over to the side of the road to allow

them to pass.

“This is nice.” Maggie followed the sound of the gulls’ cries

overhead. Not a cloud in the sky.

“It is, but then again, anything would be nice with you by

my side.”

“Thanks.” She snuggled her head against his shoulder for a

moment as they walked hand in hand further up the path.

Walking in a companionable silence, Maggie was happy. This

was nice, being here with him.

“Would you look at that?” He pointed up toward the edge of

the cliff. Maggie could just about make out the tiny figures of two

people. She swayed slightly. They had to be nuts to get that close

to the edge. They had to be nuts period.

“Yeah, well if you ask me, they’re crazy.”

“Crazy? How do you figure?” His eyes bore into hers.

“Going way up there? They must have a death wish.” Maggie

nearly shivered even though the temperature was mild.

He stopped her, placing his hands on her shoulders. “You’re

afraid of heights?”

“No, don’t be ridiculous.”

“You are, aren’t you?” His eyes lit up.

“If I’m not mistaken, it seems as if you’re deriving some kind

of sick pleasure from this,” Maggie mumbled, head down.

“No, honey. No.” He wrapped his arms around her as more

cyclists scurried by. “I didn’t mean to react that way. It’s just that

in my eyes you’re perfect. I didn’t imagine you’d have a fear in

the world.”

If only he knew. She had plenty of fears, but Maggie figured

most people did.

“Really? That’s nice of you to say. Untrue, but nice.”

“Come on. Say, what’s your greatest fear? Top fear of all

Strange turn in conversation. “Where are you going with this

line of questioning?”

He blew out a hearty chuckle. “Come on, it’s all in good fun.

I’m just trying to get to know you.”

“Okay. Heights. My top fear is heights.” She wished to change

the subject but wondered what his own fears were now that the

topic was on the table.

“What about you? What are you afraid of?”

“I guess it would be drowning.” Yes, drowning was also high

on her list.

He was uncharacteristically quiet. Now would be a good time

to lighten the mood.

“Enough of this macabre talk. Back to the beautiful day before

us.” Maggie stepped away from him to spread her arms wide. His

face remained serious.

“Yes, it would be drowning.”

A dark look passed over his brown eyes. He had already

mentioned the fact.

“Okay. Can we move on? Maybe talk about something else?”

“Since you’re the one who brought it up, I guess so.”

“I didn’t…” He was the one who had pointed out the hikers

up high on the cliff.

“Yes, you actually did. But I suppose that’s neither here nor

there. I never learned how to swim, did you know that?”

“No, I didn’t.” Maggie took a step away from his reach. She

felt uncomfortable with the vibe he was creating. More than

anything, Maggie wished he would just stop talking about his

fears, her fears.

“Can you imagine that? Being raised without swimming

Maggie could almost taste the hostility that was radiating off

him. Someone had unresolved issues from his childhood, it seemed.

Now wasn’t the time to inquire about his past, though. Maggie

slipped her hands into her light sweatshirt, wondering if it was

time they should be heading back.

“It’s getting late. What do you say we head back?”

It was as if a switch had been flipped. There was no other

way to describe it. As suddenly as his mood had become dark and

brooding, he was now light and charming once more.

“What? And miss out on sharing this spectacular day with

you?” He leaned over and kissed her. Hard.

It was a bit uncomfortable, standing there in the middle of the

path, in plain view, being kissed with such intensity.

“Come.” He led her off the path and into the thick of the woods.

She had no choice but to follow.

He chuckled as he led her to a large boulder. “Here.”

He scooped her up and placed her on top of the large rock.

Following suit, he climbed up the slight incline and joined Maggie.

Kissing her again, he cupped her head in his hands. Moments

later, his hands smoothed over her body.

Maggie stiffened, pulling away. He sat back, eyes wide. “What

is it, Maggie? What the hell is the problem now?”

“I’m just not ready.”

Placing his head in his hands, he sighed dramatically. “You’re

not ready.” His laugh was sharp.

My Chronic Pain Journey: Mayo Clinic Update

Hi everyone!

Other than posting my scheduled posts, I’ve been pretty absent on here. I apologize for that, but this week has been insane. I won’t go into all the boring details of each test, but I’ve been at the Mayo Clinic every day (today is the first day I wasn’t there).

I had lots of tests and met lots of doctors. As of right now, I don’t have an answer yet, but they did finally find something in one of my tests. On Friday, they sent me to Audiology to have a balance and inner ear test done. Apparently, my left inner ear is weaker than my right. This is definitely causing the dizzy/unbalanced feeling I have on a regular basis. Ths question now is…what is causing my pain? Doctors still aren’t sure, but they are very thorough. On Monday, I have to contact my neurologist and see what his next step is.

On the plus side, Arizona is beautiful. I’ll attach some of the photos I’ve taken. I’m trying to soak in as much sun as I can. I promise, I’ll be a better fellow blogger soon.

BLOG TOUR | No One Can Hear You – Nikki Crutchley

Hi everyone!

Today is my stop on the blog tour for No One Can Hear You.

He said that they’d let me go on purpose. That they could easily find me if they wanted to. He said that they didn’t want me. That I was too much trouble. He said if I went to the cops, he’d know. If I told Sonya, he’d know. If I talked to friends or teachers, he’d know. He told me to pretend it didn’t happen. He told me to consider it a compliment, that I was too strong. His last words to me were, ‘Just forget’.

Troubled teen Faith Marsden was one of several girls abducted from Crawton, a country town known for its picturesque lake and fertile farmland. Unlike the others, she escaped, though sixteen years on she still bears the emotional and physical scars.

Zoe Haywood returns to Crawton to bury her estranged mother Lillian, who has taken her own life. As she and Faith rekindle their high-school friendship, they discover notes left by Lillian that point to two more young women who recently disappeared from Crawton. But Lillian’s confused ramblings leave them with more questions than answers.

As Faith and Zoe delve deeper into the mystery, they become intent on saving the missing women, but in doing so are drawn into Auckland’s hidden world of drugs, abduction and murder. And then Faith decides to confront the mastermind – on her own.

Nikki Crutchley has weaved together an intriguing story about drugs, murder, abduction and the power of friendship in No One Can Hear You. I was immediately drawn in by the prologue, and compelled to continue reading. This is such a well put together plot, that every intricicate detail is important.

I’m thoroughly impressed with the characters in thisstory, and the layers of mystery and clues as you continue to uncover the truth of the story. And the finale! …well, I can’t tell you much about that, but you’re in for a journey with No One Can Hear You.

I highly recommend checking this one out. It’s compelling and it keeps you guessing with red herrings and clues. Plus, you’re not going to want to miss the finale.
