April Goals

Hi everyone!

Happy Saturday. I can’t believe tomorrow is Easter, and the first day of April. This year is already flying by.

In the beginning of March, I posted my goals for the month. Today, I would like to discuss how well I did, and set new goals for April. Here we go.

March Goals Wrap Up

1. Get more sleep.

I did really well with this one until my abdominal pain started acting up. Hopefully, I can get back on track.

2. Review a few of the books I’ve read over the last two months.

I made some progress on this, but my TBR pile grows every day.

3. Alter Reach: more self-edits, and start recruiting beta readers.

I made progress with Alter Reach – this will be an ongoing goal.

4. Try one new recipe a week.

Nope. Failed. Oh well.

5. Write a blog post every other day.

I pretty much did this. There were a couple missed days, but I made them up, and am happy to call this goal accomplished.

I think I did pretty well with my March Goals and am looking forward to April being even more productive.

April Goals

1. Make more progress on Alter Reach.

Like I said, this will be ongoing until the book is released.

2. Read from the Bible, nightly.

I’m trying to be more involved with our Church, but before I can do that, I need to study the source a bit more.

3. Work out at least 30 minutes a day.

I need to get my beach body ready. 😂

4. Read and review more books.

I’d love to put another dent in my TBR in April.

5. Update Twitter more often.

I feel like I’ve been neglecting Twitter, which is bad because it has been a pretty useful tool.

What are some of your goals for April? Let me know!

Have a fantastic Saturday!

March Goals

Hi everyone!

Can you believe it is almost March? It is crazy how time flies. I feel like it’s time to bring back my monthly goals post. I’ve been having trouble keeping up with everything I need to get done, and getting overwhelmed. I think setting 5 realistic goals a month will help calm the anxiety a bit.

Here we go. 🙂

1. Get more sleep.

This has been a struggle. There is not enough time at night to get everything done that I want to, so I end up staying up too late. I’m going to try to change that, and start going to bed earlier.

2. Review a few of the books I’ve read over the last two months.

I have so many books to review and finish, I don’t even want to think about it. I’m not going to get completely caught up in a month, but I think I can make progress.

3. Alter Reach: more self-edits, and start recruiting beta readers.

I’m so excited to further my progress with Alter Reach. I’m going to try to get as much of this goal done in March, but this one will definitely carry over into April.

4. Try one new recipe a week.

I’ve been setting this goal for myself every month for a LONG time. I really want to do this, and I think I’m motivated!

5. Write a blog post every other day.

I’ve been doing pretty well keeping up, but I know I can do better.

There you have it. I will update you on my success at the end of the month. Do you have any goals for March? Let me know in the comments. Have a great day!

September TBR

Hey there, Happy Thursday. I have a very long list of books to read on my shelf. As a writer, I think one of the most important things to do is read. I’m going to try something new, and see if it helps me work through my TBR list a little quicker. At the beginning of the month, I am going to select 4 books I would like to complete. I will do reviews on each book after completion, and at the end of the month, I will do a wrap up on my success.

September TBR (in no particular order):

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo

Passenger – Alexandra Bracken

Days of Blood & Starlight (Book 2 in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy) – Laini Taylor

Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Book 3 in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy) – Laini Taylor

Let me know what your September reading plans are.

Jessica’s Monthly Goals

Happy Saturday! Today is Canal Days in the town I live in. It’s a great event where they block off streets and have live music, food and vendors. Really looking forward to it.

I’m planning on posting two blogs today. I figured it was time to do my monthly goals. May kind of got away from me, so my results might be a little painful.

May Results:

  1. Post 3 blogs per week including my weekly Poetry post. – I failed miserably at this. Sorry about that. I will make this a goal for June as well.
  2. Get some pictures of myself taken by hubby. – Another fail to add to the list. Not starting off great, am I? Haha.
  3. Go to Church every Sunday. – Almost did this, so I’m giving myself a half of a point.
  4. Update Twitter & Facebook four times a week. – I think I did this!
  5. Cook one new recipe a week. – Not sure it was one a week but I tried some new recipes this month, so I will call this completed.
  6. Maintain a happy, healthy environment for our new fish kids. – This is happening. 😊
  7. Read 4 books (or more). – Nope.
  8. Lose 5lbs. – Nope.
  9. Read from the Bible nightly. – Nope.
  10. Write a new piece of poetry. – Nope.

GOALS COMPLETED:  3.5 out of 10

Well…I failed miserably you guys. But, not every month will be successful. I will keep a positive outlook on June!

June Goals

  1. Post 3 blogs per week including my weekly Poetry post.
  2. Get some pictures of myself taken by hubby.
  3. Go to Church every Sunday.
  4. Update Twitter & Facebook four times a week.
  5. Cook one new recipe a week.
  6. Plan a trip for our two year anniversary.
  7. Read 4 books (or more).

Reader Problems Book Tag

Hello everyone! Two blog posts in one day – unheard of! I’m really trying to get back on my game of writing consistently, so here I am. 😛

This is a tag I found on Katytastic’s YouTube channel – check it out. If you want to answer the questions, I tag you. Let me know you did it so I can read your answers! 🙂

QUESTIONS

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

I don’t really have a strategy for this. I normally just look at my shelf and grab a book that sticks out to me. The only time I pick a specific book is if I am reading through a series. For example, the Hunger Games – I read the books, one after another.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

Sometimes I quit, sometimes I commit to the end. If I am reaching the “exciting” portion of the book and still not loving it, I put it down. There have been times when I was reading a book and thinking about putting it down, but I powered through and ended up loving the book. This is rare though.
3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your GoodReads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

I set unrealistic GoodReads reading challenges for myself, but I try to catch up by reading as much as possible whenever I have a chance.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

This bothers me so much…but I still buy the un-matching book because I am not satisfied until I have the entire series on my shelf.

5. Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

I don’t really have anyone to bond over my shared hatred of certain books…except maybe my husband, but he isn’t really into the books I’m into so that doesn’t always work. I just look up YouTube reviews and try to find people who have similar opinions.

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

I leave said public setting and finish reading the tear-worthy section. If I’m in a situation that I can’t leave, I’m normally not reading.

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?!?

Sometimes I re-read the book, sometimes I find a synopsis. It depends on how long it’s been since I read the prior book. Normally, I start reading a series after all the books have come out anyway, so I’m not in this situation often.

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

I let people borrow books once and a while, but it has to be someone I trust. I love my books, don’t get me wrong, but if it’s a story I think people should read, I am happy to let them read it.

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

This is me, right now. I try to power through it by picking a book that I have been excited to read. This normally helps me to get back into it.

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

I only spend money when I know I can..so I suffer through wanting all the books until I can either afford them or ask for them for Christmas 🙂

11. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

It depends on where I am on my TBR list. Sometimes the new book is at the top, and sometimes it’s a little farther down. I only buy a book if it’s in the top 5 of my reading TBR unless I’m buying from a used book store and find something that just interests me.

Well, there it is. Last post for today, but I’m hoping I will be better about posting now. Thanks for sticking with me! 🙂

Jessica’s Monthly Goals

Hi there!

Quick update – we got a fish tank! Very excited.

Anyway, today I figured I would go over the results from my “monthly goals” and tell you what my May goals are.

April Goals – Results

  1. Complete Camp NaNoWriMo. – I have a rough goal of 25,000 words, but my main goal is to finish Alter Reach. – I unfortunately didn’t accomplish this. I got quite a bit done, but Alter Reach isn’t complete yet.
  2. Post 3 blogs per week (including Jessica’s Weekly Poetry Post). – I think other than the last week, I pretty much kept up with this. So yay me. Haha.
  3. Clean out/organize under my kitchen cupboards (yes, there will be non-writer goals!) – DONE
  4. Start looking into editors (if you have any suggestions, let me know!) and pricing out my options. – I haven’t settled on one, but I’ve looked into options.
  5. Start looking into cover designers (if you have any suggestions, let me know!) and pricing out my options. – Same as #4. I haven’t settled on anything yet.
  6. Get some “professional” photos of myself taken. (By professional, I mean have my husband take some nice portraits of me.) – Failed. I’ll try again in May haha.
  7. Clean out/organize my closet and donate things I don’t need. – DONE!
  8. Go to Church every Sunday. – In my defence, my husband and I were sick for the first two weeks of April, and we had to skip Easter…so this didn’t happen, but I’m not considering it a fail.
  9. Update Twitter and Facebook more often. – I did this with Twitter. I still neglected Facebook, but my traffic there is small anyway.
  10. Plan a nice Birthday for my hubby (his Birthday is the 27th!) – I think he had a good birthday, so I’ll call this a win! 🙂

GOALS COMPLETED: 7.5 out of 10

Not bad. Okay, here’s my 10 goals for the month of May! Some goals will be repeated from month to month because they are good habits.

  1. Post 3 blogs per week including my weekly Poetry post.
  2. Get some pictures of myself taken by hubby.
  3. Go to Church every Sunday.
  4. Update Twitter & Facebook four times a week.
  5. Cook one new recipe a week.
  6. Maintain a happy, healthy environment for our new fish kids.
  7. Read 4 books (or more).
  8. Lose 5lbs.
  9. Read from the Bible nightly.
  10. Write a new piece of poetry.

Alright, that’s a good list of goals I think. I hope you all have a great week! Stay tuned for a couple movie reviews I have planned (including the promised review of Cloverfield), along with some other fun blogs.

Jessica’s Monthly Goals

Hey Everyone!

Happy Friday!!!! I can’t express how happy I am, it has been a long week.

For this blog, I wanted to start something new. My plan is to tell you at the beginning of each month, 10 solid goals I would like to accomplish, and then at the end of the month, tell you if I succeeded or failed. I need a little bit more planning in my life if I ever want to accomplish the things I’ve set out to do. So, without further adieu, here’s my April Monthly Goals.

  1. Complete Camp NaNoWriMo. – I have a rough goal of 25,000 words, but my main goal is to finish Alter Reach.
  2. Post 3 blogs per week (including Jessica’s Weekly Poetry Post).
  3. Clean out/organize under my kitchen cupboards (yes, there will be non-writer goals!)
  4. Start looking into editors (if you have any suggestions, let me know!) and pricing out my options.
  5. Start looking into cover designers (if you have any suggestions, let me know!) and pricing out my options.
  6. Get some “professional” photos of myself taken. (By professional, I mean have my husband take some nice portraits of me.)
  7. Clean out/organize my closet and donate things I don’t need.
  8. Go to Church every Sunday.
  9. Update Twitter and Facebook more often.
  10. Plan a nice Birthday for my hubby (his Birthday is the 27th!)

Okay, I think that’s a pretty solid list of writing and non-writer goals. Wish me luck in completing them!

That is all I have for you today.
