TAG | Give Thanks For All The Great Reads

Hi everyone!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I was tagged by Mischenko for this awesome tag and I thought this would be a good post for today.

Short and sweet rules:

  • Make sure to tag me as the creator (because I want to see everyone’s answers and make my TBR even longer…) Abbey @ Three Cats and a Girl
  • Make sure to tag the lovely blogger who tagged you (because they also love lengthening their TBR)
  • Give something that you are thankful for this year at the end of the post!
  • Tag as many or as few bloggers as you like

You Turkey! ~ a book that made you laugh

I’m going to pick The Savior’s Champion because there are some really funny lines. It’s not a comedy by any means, but Jenna Moreci knows how to cut the tension with humor. You can read my review here.

I’m Stuffed ~ a book that completely satisfied you

For this one, I’m going to choose Retribution by Kate L. Mary. It was everything I wanted in a final book. Read my review here.

Pumpkin Pie ~ the book you are looking forward to reading next

The next book in my reading schedule is The Raven Tower by Emma Miles.

Go Team! ~ a book where you found yourself really cheering for a certain character

I was cheering for the robot butler in Duck Egg Blues! You can read my review here.

Traditions ~ a book you could/do reread every year because it’s so dang good

My absolute favorite read this year, and one I plan to reread again was In the Shadow of the Hanging Tree! You can read my review here.

I’m thankful fora book that really helped you in life

It goes without saying that I would pick The Bible to answer this question every year.

What am I thankful for?

So much! I’m thankful for my husband, my family, my friends and all of you that read my blog. Without you guys, I wouldn’t be having as much fun here as I am. 🧡

I Tag:

Everyone that reads and wants to do the tag. 😍

Let me know what you’re thankful for. I hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving!!

Blog Aesthetics Tag

Hi everyone!

Thank you to Sarah for tagging me in the blog aesthetics tag. This is a super fun one, and I couldn’t wait to do it.

The Rules:
  • Collect any number of images that you feel represent you as a person—your personality, aspirations, favorite things, anything at all that makes you you.
  • Put your chosen images together into a collage of whatever size and shape you find pleasing.Share your masterpiece with everyone, in all the places.
  • Maybe nominate other bloggers as a way to tell them, “Hey, you, I think you’re awesome, and we should celebrate that awesomeness.”

Mine are sort of obvious, but I will explain them anyway. 😊

  1. The top left picture is from our wedding day. I married my best friend, and he has been there for me through the ups and downs. So he definitely is part of what makes me who I am.
  2. The next picture is pretty obvious – I love writing, and it is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
  3. The next picture is probably the most ambiguous picture of the bunch. I feel like I’m on a journey right now. I’m clearly crossing a bridge, but I’m not exactly sure where I’m headed. That’s why this bridge picture represents me.
  4. I had to include my other best friend, Cheyenne. Even though I don’t see her all the time, I don’t know what my life would be like without her. She means the world to me.
  5. Finally, a shelf of books, because I obviously love reading and writing them!

As per usual, I nominate anyone who wishes to participate. Just let me know if you do, because I want to see your collage!

Story Idea Writing Tag

Hi everyone!

I haven’t done a tag in a while, so I searched WordPress and found this one. As usual, I tag anyone who wishes to answer the questions. 😊

Found on Janet Barry’s blog, A Writer’s Thoughts.

CURRENT STORY:

What is your current story idea that you’re working on right now?

I’m still working on Alter Reach. I’ll share my teaser blurb, so you can get an idea of what it is about:

In A journey to recover their lost memories, twins, Marci and Alyson, must return to a world they were forced to forget, and fight a battle they didn’t know was coming.

SPARK OF INSPIRATION:

Do your ideas begin with characters, plot, world building, or something else entirely?

Alter Reach began with world building. I had a crazy dream about a magical world that could only be accessed through a tunnel system underneath a silo on an abandoned farm. That was the foundation, and that part hasn’t changed.

BRAINSTORM:

How do you puzzle piece your story elements together? Do you start with the ending and make your way to the beginning or vice versa?

I started at the beginning of Alter Reach, because of the dream I’ve had. It’s taken me quite a while to come up with an ending that I’m satisfied with.

KEEP OR TOSS:

How do you know when you want to keep or dump a story idea?

I’m not the greatest multi-tasker when it comes to writing. I keep a journal of other ideas as they come, but I don’t throw them out. I just save them all, and work on the one that calls to me.

ORIGINAL IDEA:

How much of your original idea for your story is actually used once everything is finished?

For Alter Reach, the foundation has been the same through the entire writing process. However, the rest has changed over and over.

HIDE OR SHARE:

Do you share your book ideas with friends or keep them a secret?

I share with certain people. I’m not the most outgoing, so if I don’t feel comfortable, I don’t bring it up.

DREAM:

Have any of your book ideas originated with a dream/nightmare?

Yup. It’s where a lot of my ideas spark from. I often have vivid dreams and nightmares. If I can remember it, I write it down…even if it’s just a fragment.

DOPPLEGANGER:

Have you ever had an idea for a story but then see a similar premise in a book/tv-show/movie?

Alter Reach is semi-similar to many different things in the fantasy world, but it is unique enough that I don’t think anyone is going to say that I reminds them of one thing in particular.

BIG SCREEN INSPIRATION:

Have any of your favorite movies/tv shows sparked ideas for scenes in your book?

Absolutely. I draw inspiration from all sorts of places.

NOSTALGIA:

What’s the oldest/first story idea you remember coming up with/writing down?

I’ve shared it in my Early Writing posts. It’s called The Mouse and the Bear. I wrote short stories all the time. I’ve loved writing since I was able to write.

My husband had Monday off, so we are spending the long weekend together. I have my second opinion, Rheumatologist appointment on Monday. I’m trying to stay positive while also keep my expectations low. Not sure what we will do this weekend, but sometimes that’s more fun.

What are your plans for the weekend?

WWW Wednesday

Hi everyone!

I’m back with another WWW Wednesday. 😊

WWW Wednesday: Hosted by Taking on a World of Words

What are you currently reading?
What did you finish recently reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Into the Fire by Charles Soto. It’s a contemporary, which I don’t read a ton of, but while I am out of work, I’m taking advantage of blog tour opportunities and reading books I may not normally read. My stop is on the 15th, so stay tuned for that!

What did you finish recently reading?

I just finished Cusp of Night by Mae Claire. My stop on the blog tour is today, so don’t forget to check that one out (it should be posted shortly after this).

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next up is In the Shadow of the Hanging Tree by Michael A. McLellan. Another book that is a little outside my comfort zone, but I’m still happy to have the opportunity to read it.

What are you currently reading? Let me know in the comments. I hope you have a great day.

Writers Not Writing Tag

Hi everyone!

I have been doing a lot of blog tours lately, which has been super fun and I’ve discovered a lot of great authors. I have a few days until my next one, so I thought I would do another tag.

Found the tag here. Check out her answers. 😊

Do you have a day job?

At the moment, I don’t because of my health issues. I’m using this time to write and blog as much as possible. If I can make writing my job, then all will be right in my world!

Are you a reader?

Absolutely! I think it’s a requirement to read as much as possible if you’re writing. I am a little obsessed (okay a lot) with buying books and my TBR list is 8 miles long, but it is okay.

What are your other hobbies?

Netflix binging, swimming. If I can start feeling better, I really want to take boxing lessons.

Tea or coffee?

Tea. I really don’t like coffee. I know, I’m weird.

What are you passionate about?

Aside from writing…reading, book buying, blogging and helping people.

Do you have any pets?

Yup! I have a dog named Cheyenne. She’s a lab/pit mix and she’s about 8 years old. We also have quite a few fish.

What was your dream job as a child/when you were younger?

I wanted to be a Marine Biologist until we had to dissect a frog in science class, and I decided that life was not for me. Haha.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

Maine. I really loved it there when we visited. It was beautiful.

Do you speak foreign languages?

I took Spanish in high school and Sign Language in college, but I didn’t keep up with either enough to really be able to communicate. I would love to go back and learn more sign. I always thought it would be cool to be an interpreter.

What music would we find in your collection?

Recently added a lot of Christian music, like Chris Tomlin and Lauren Daigle. You’ll also find Evanescence and some other similar rock music. You might also find my old Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, haha.

As usual, I tag anyone that wants to participate. I hope you are having a great week.

3 Quotes, 3 Days – Day 1 (Round 2)

Hi everyone!

I was tagged by Mischenko @ ReadRantRock&Roll to participate in the 3 Days, 3 Quotes tag. Be sure to check out Michenko’s blog, because it is fantastic!!

I did this once already, but I love it, so I’m doing it again. 😊

As some of you know, I’ve been struggling with debilitating pain. We are thinking Fibromyalgia, but they’ve found a couple other things we need to look into. I’ve been really trying to read and digest the Bible more than I ever have before, and this verse really spoke to me. If you’re struggling, I hope you find comfort in this one.

As usual, I tag anyone who wants to participate. I think this is a really fun tag. We are going to my Dad’s for a cookout. What are you doing this weekend?

20 Questions Book Tag

Hi everyone!

A bit of an update on my pain situation. The pain management and physical therapy doctors have been the best and most understanding through this entire ordeal. They are the only ones who have said they would be able to help. It’s not the other specialists fault, because it wasn’t their area, but it’s so hard to keep hearing, “there’s nothing we can do for you.”

Anyway, I had my MRI the other day, which I was super nervous about (I can be claustrophobic), but it ended up being a piece of cake (I went in feet first, so my head wasn’t all the way in). It takes 3-5 days for those results, so that stinks, but we will see. I’m also scheduled for cortisone shots next week – hoping for some relief. I also have referrals out to three different rheumatologists, because I would like to be checked over for Fibromyalgia. It’s starting to feel like a real possibility.

Alright, that’s my long-winded update for you. On to today’s topic. 😊

1. How many books is too many in a series?

I don’t mind a long series, as long as there is a reason for each book. When it starts to feel like the plot is lacking, it’s time to end the series.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I don’t mind them, as long as the next book is definitely coming out. I HATE when stories go unfinished. This happens to me more often with TV shows, but it annoys me.

3. Hardback or Paperback?

Hardback to look at, paperback to read.

4. Favorite book?

Ugh. This question is too hard. I don’t really have an all time favorite, because, when I read something better than a book I loved before, it becomes my new favorite. My current favorite is The Savior’s Champion by Jenna Moreci.

5. Least Favorite book?

I have a dozen of these too, but one that comes to mind is, Evermore by Alyson Noel. It’s been a long time since I read this one, but I remember fricken hating it.

6. Love Triangles, yes or no?

They don’t rile me up as much as some people, but I don’t enjoy them. I think they are indicative of an unhealthy relationship, but there are much worse examples of unhealthy out there. This is not the one that concerns me most.

7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

I try really hard not to do this, because I don’t feel like I can review a book if I haven’t finished it. I’m honestly not sure what the last one was.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

I’m currently reading Heir of Ashes by Jina Bazzar, and a couple others for different blog tours. 😊

9. The last book you recommended to someone?

I always recommend Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Aime Kaufman.

10. The oldest book you’ve read?

I’m going with the Bible for this question. 😊

11. Newest book you’ve read?

Father Figure by James J Cudney (which I will be reviewing soon on the tour!)

12. Favorite Author?

Like favorite books, I don’t really have a favorite author. There are quite a few that I would buy books from every time. Laini Talyor, Jenna Moreci, Jay Kristoff, Aime Kaufman, etc.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

Buying. I want them on my shelf because I’m a book hoarder.

14. A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?

I’m not a fan of the Game of Thrones books or TV show. 🤤 I know, it’s weird coming from a fantasy lover but, the gore, incestuous relationships…I could go on, but I won’t for fear of offending. If it’s your cup of tea, great. 😊

15. Bookmarks or dog ears?

Bookmarks.

16. A book you can always re-read?

I’m not generally a re-reader to be honest, so I’m going with the Bible again.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

Much like when I’m writing, the music needs to just be instrumental.

18. One POV or multiple POVs? (POV = point of view)

No preference, as long as it is done well.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Lately I’ve been reading in one sitting, but that’s easier to do when you’re not at work. Generally, it takes me a couple of days.

20. A book you’ve read because of the cover?

I picked up Illuminae because of the cover (my favorite color is orange, haha.)

I tag anyone who wants to answer the questions. Just let me know if you do, because I’d love to read your answers.

Have a great day!

This Is My Genre, Tell Me Yours Book Tag

Hi everyone!

Happy Saturday. This weekend is always rough for me because, as some of you know, I lost my mom in 2008. However, I have the best step-mother anyone could ask for, and I also love my mother-in-law, so I count myself as blessed.

An update on my pain situation: The Neurologist turned out to be the wrong doctor to see, because he couldn’t help me (on the plus side, it’s something else that has been ruled out). It’s unfortunate because I waited two months to see him.

I’ve had two physical therapy sessions which are going well. It doesn’t really help the pain because it hurts to move, but I can’t imagine sitting around all day is good for me, so I’m choosing to believe it’s helping. I see pain management again on Monday, and I have an MRI (ugh) on Tuesday…so we will see.

Alright, enough about that. I’m doing a tag today. It was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek!

1. What is your favorite genre?

Tough question, but I think I’m going to go with Fantasy.

2. Who is your favorite author from that genre?

I have a really hard time picking favorite authors, because every time I read a new book that I love, that author becomes the new favorite. So, I’m going to say that my latest favorite fantasy book is The Savior’s Champion by Jenna Moreci.

3. What is it about the genre that keeps pulling you back?

Fantasy is so vast. Each story is so unique because there is so much material to work with. I think I love to get lost in the world that has been created. I love that even though the worlds and characters are so magical, fantasy novels somehow manage to make you feel like it’s all possible.

4. What is the book that started your love for that genre?

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien.

5. If you had to recommend at least one book from your favorite genre to a non-reader/someone looking to start reading that genre, what book would you choose and why?

I recently really enjoyed the Daughter of Smoke & Bones series by Laini Taylor. The writing is beautiful and the world is so amazing, so I would recommend that to someone looking for a fantasy to read.

6. Why do you read?

I read because I love to be whisked away to new worlds, and I love to read about well developed character’s journies. I’m also slightly addicted to stockpiling books, so there’s that too.

I tag anyone who would like to answer the questions! Wish me luck with these appointments this week. I’m really hoping to find relief soon.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful Moms out there. ♡
