Finally Fall Book Tag!

Hi there!

Happy Wednesday. I wanted to do this tag because I love fall. I found it here.

Quick announcement: I’m almost to 100 followers! That is my first goal of many for this blog, and as soon as I hit 100, I plan to do a giveaway. Stay tuned for that! 😊

Finally Fall Book Tag

1. In fall, the air is crisp and clear: name a book with a vivid setting!

I’m going to go with Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. The world building in this one is fantastic, and the setting is super vivid!

2. Nature is beautiful… but also dying: name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief.

I’m picking My Story by Elizabeth Smart. Very heavy, written by a very strong woman.

3. Fall is back to school season: share a non-fiction book that taught you something new.

How to Make a Living as a Writing – James Scott Bell

4. In order to keep warm, it’s good to spend some time with the people we love: name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you’d like to be a part of.

Harry, Ron & Hermione will be a popular answer for this, but I’m going with it because it’s true.

5. The nights are getting darker: share a dark, creepy read.

The Call by Peadar O’Guilin. Review coming soon, but it’s a creepy one!

6. The days are getting colder: name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up somebody’s cold and rainy day.

I’m lame. I don’t really have a suggestion for this. Most short stories I’ve read have been creepy, haha.

7. Fall returns every year: name an old favorite that you’d like to return to soon.

I’ve been wanting to re-read The Hunger Games series.

8. Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: share your favorite cozy reading “accessories”!

Blanket and warm pumpkin spice chai latte. 🙂

As usual, I tag anyone who wants to participate, just let me know so I can read your answers.

All Hallows Write Tag

Hello! I hope you’re all having a great Monday (as great as a Monday can be).

I wanted to take quick second to say my thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by these terrible tragedies (hurricanes, shootings, etc.).

I found this tag here. I love Fall and Halloween is my favorite. I am excited to do a Halloween themed tag, and you can be sure it won’t be my last this month.

All Hallows Write Tag

The Rules:
#1 – Provide a BRIEF description of your novel before starting.

#2 – Don’t use the same character for more than 3 answers.

Brief Description of Alter Reach: Twins, Marci and Alyson journey to a world they were forced to forget and fight a battle they didn’t know was coming.

The Questions:

1. It’s Halloween night! What is your protagonist dressed up as?

Marci would probably be dressed up as

2. Who in your cast refuses to dress up and shows up to the Halloween party without a costume?

Astrid. She would find the entire idea of dressing up absurd, and she would probably spend the entire night scowling in the corner.

3. Which character wears the most outrageous costume, and what would it be?

Faelyn would find a way to be a dragon. She’d light an arrow on fire and pretend breathe fire at Zeke.

4. On Halloween, werewolves, vampires, and zombies are on the prowl. Which one of your characters gets caught in their clutches and which creature do they subsequently turn into.

Alyson would most certainly fall for a vampire’s seduction and become one. She’s a gullible one.

5. Who wins the contest for best costume?

Braston. He could come as himself and everyone would vote for him because he’s that awesome.

6. Who hands out toothbrushes to trick and treaters?

Eloise. She would be muttering about how terrible candy is.

7. Which two of your characters decide to pair up and do an angel/devil costume?

Jade would force Zeke to wear the devil costume and parade around telling everyone how angelic she is.

8. Someone is too scared to even attend the Halloween party. Who is it?

Hmm. Good question. Maybe Al. Only because he wouldn’t want to be seen by Zeke.

9. Who overdoses on Halloween candy and ends up sick.

Pierce, because he is doing anything to avoid the annoyed chatter of Astrid.

10. Which character is most likely to place a curse on someone and who would they curse?

Astrid. She hates this party, and she’d definitely curse Marci.

I tag anyone who wants to do the tag. Just let me know in the comments below so I can read your answers.

Bookish Scenarios Tag

Hi everyone! I’m super excited because my hubby and I decided to make this weekend a long weekend. I plan to spend lots of time with him but also get a lot of stuff done (like reading the books on my TBR for this month!). I wanted to do a quick tag tonight before diving back into reading. I found this tag on Katytastic’s YouTube channel.

Bookish Scenarios

1. You have to get rid of all your books and you can only keep one from each of these genres – contemporary, fantasy, non-fiction and one other genre of your choosing. What books do you keep?

Contemporary: I don’t read a ton of contemporary, so I am going to go with The Fault in Our Stars because it’s one of the only ones on my shelf.

Fantasy: Hmm. Tough one, but I will go wit The Lord of the Rings. Can we pretend the entire series is one book?

Non-Fiction: Six Days of Creation. Cool Christian science book.

Sci-fi (genre of my choice): Illuminae. Hands down. It might be my favorite book.

2. You’re at the bookstore and you hear a teenager telling their mom they don’t like to read, but their mom insists they pick something. You walk over and recommend a book you think is great for people who aren’t big on reading – what book is it?

Hmm. Good question. Maybe Harry Potter? It’s a fun read and I don’t think it’s too challenging.

3. You’re not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which book do you read to put yourself in a great mood?

Eve: The Awakening by Jenna Moreci. It’s such a kick-butt book. I love it.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years. What book would you most likely have caught yourself reading?

Twilight. Yeah, I was one of those.

5. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day trip and you have 1 hour to pack. Which book do you bring to read on the way?

I’m bringing Passengers, because I just started reading it and I can’t wait to finish it.

6. Your house has been robbed! Don’t worry – everyone is safe, but your bookshelf has been raided. What’s the book you really hope is safe?

Eve: The Awakening because it’s a signed copy and I don’t want to loose it. (Yes, I used this book for multiple answers).

7. Your friend borrows a book and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven’t noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs

I’d say something, and ask for them to repurchase. If you’re borrowing my books, you best be nice to them.

That’s all I have for you tonight. As always, I tag you if you want to participate. Let me know in the comments if you do, I’d love to read your responses.

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday. I’m currently reading through the second book in my September TBR challenge, so I thought I would do a quick tag.

On another note, I’m super close to 100 followers on this blog. I wanted to say thank you for the support. I’m trying to plan my 100 subscriber blog, so stay tuned for that (hopefully soon! 😊)

As always, I tag anyone who wants to participate.

Not really. The only thing I need to do is shut down Twitter…because Twitter is the downfall of my writing progress.

Creating relatable characters. I love creating diverse, relatable personalities.

Reading Habits Book Tag

Hello there! Since I’m working through my SSeptember TBR, I thought it would be fun to do a reading book tag. I came across the tag here.

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Either on the couch or in bed. Some day, I will have a special place in my house for reading and writing, but for now, I make do with the apartment.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Normally, I use a random piece of paper, but I purchased a few pretty bookmarks from our church’s bookstore, so I use them.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I have page number goals for my September TBR challenge. If I don’t have a page number goals, I need to stop at the end of a chapter. I definitely can’t stop in the middle of one.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Water, mostly. I am trying to lose some weight, so snacking while reading or writing is out of the question at the moment.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

I can listen to music with no lyrics, but that is it. As with writing, TV or songs with people singing will distract me from the task.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

One book at a time. When I attempt more than one at a time, I don’t finish any of them.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

At home or on break at work. I don’t sit in a restaurant to read, but I will read anywhere that’s appropriate.

8. Reading out lout or silently in your head?

Silently in my head…unless I want Paul to hear a sentence for some reason.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

No way.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Like new.

11. Do you write in your books?

Nope. If I’m taking notes for a review, I write them down in a separate notebook. I love my books too much to do anything to them.

_____________________________________

Well, that’s all I have for you today. Per usual, I tag anyone that would like to do the tag. I hope you’re enjoying the long weekend if you have it off. If you don’t, I hope work is going by quickly for you.

I don’t. I enjoy reading while traveling. Best way to pass time.

2. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga?

Rapid Fire Book Tag

Hello and Happy Saturday! I have a three day weekend because hubby and I decided to take Monday off. We are seeing The Who Sunday night and used it as an excuse to have a day off.

I’ll definitely post a blog about the show. I’m expecting it to be great. Downside is we have lawn seats and there is a threat of rain…so keep your fingers crossed for us!

Today I thought I would do another tag. As always, feel free to do the tag yourself and let me know so I can read your answers.

The original creator of the tag did a YouTube video which you can watch here.

1. Ebook or Physical book?

Definitely physical. I like the idea behind ebooks, but I rarely read them. I love to have the physical book in my hands (and on my shelf).

2. Paperback or Hardcover?

Paperback. They are easier to read, and you don’t have to worry about storing the sleeve somewhere safe while you read.

3. Online or In Store Shopping?

I buy the majority of my books online because you can’t beat the price. 99.9% of the time I can get a book for much cheaper and shipped free on Amazon. I do, however, love to shop around used bookstores.

4. Trilogies or Series?

I think I’ll go with trilogies.

5. Heroes or Villains?

Learning the backstory and motivations behind the villain in a story, if done right, can be very compelling and surprising, so I will go with villains.

6. A book you want everyone to read?

Illuminae – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. You’ve seen me talk about this book a million times. Go read it. 😛

7. Recommend an underrated book?

While I don’t think it’s underrated, it’s not as well known as it should be. Eve: The Awakening – Jenna Moreci.

8. The last book you finished?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone – Laini Taylor

9. The last book you bought?

I’m cheating a little because I am about to buy this book today, so I’m using it as my answer haha. Before The Fall – Noah Hawley

10. Weirdest thing you’ve used as a bookmark?

My phone. Because reading is more important than social interaction 😉

11. Used books: Yes or No?

Yes! As stated previously, I love used book stores and used books.

12. Top three favorite genres?

Fantasy, Sci-fi, Mystery/Thriller

13. Borrow or Buy?

Buy. That way I have no pressure to return it. My bank account, however, enjoys borrowing books.

14. Characters or Plot?

Characters. If I’m connecting with the characters, I am much more likely to stick through to the end of the book.

15. Long Books or Short Books?

Tough question, because it depends on my mood. But I guess I’ll go with long.

16. Long Chapters or Short Chapters?

Short chapters. I seem to fly through books with shorter chapters no matter how long the book is.

17. Name the first three books you think of…

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo

Passenger- Alexandra Bracken

If I Stay – Gayle Forman

18. Books the make you laugh or cry?

Laugh.

19. Our World or Fictional Worlds?

Fictional worlds. Not sure why. I like the escape.

20. Audiobooks: Yes or No

For very specific books, I enjoy audio books (Illuminae). Otherwise, no.

21. Do you ever judge a book by its cover?

Once and a while, but I try not to.

22. Book to Movie or Book to TV?

If done correctly, book to movie. Doesn’t happen often though, haha.

23. A Movie or TV Show you preferred to its Book?

Vampire Diaries. I just couldn’t get into the books, but I watched the show all the way to the end.

24. Series or Stand Alone?

Stand alone.
That’s all I have for you today. Expect a post about about The Who concert, probably Monday since I’ll be home late Sunday. I hope you enjoy your weekend!

You can still read Chapter One of Alter Reach here.

Opposite Books Tag

Hi everyone! I hope your week is going okay! I wanted to do a quick tag I saw on YouTube. I tag you if you’d like to participate, just let me know so I can read your responses!

First book in your collection/Last book you bought

I believe the first book I ever bought was The Silver Kiss by Annette Kurtos Klause. I rented it from the library in middle school, read it in one night and then asked for it for my birthday.

The last book I book I bought was Gone by Michael Grant. I bought it on a whim in a great little used book store. I’ll review it when I get to it.

A cheap book/An expensive book

I just picked up The Grim Legacy by Polly Shulman from the same book store I bought Gone from. I believe it was $3.

For my expensive book, I’m going to go with Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff…not because the book was super expensive, but because between the hardcover copy and the audible copy, I spent more than I ever have.

A book with a male protagonist/a book with a female protagonist

Male protagonist: The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

Female protagonist: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

A book you read fast/A book that took you forever to read

A book that I read quickly: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I actually read this series in three days.

A book that took me forever: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R. R. Tolkien. I actually really enjoyed this book but it wasn’t an easy read for me, so it took me quite a while to get through.

Pretty cover/Ugly cover

Pretty cover: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Lani Taylor. I bought this mainly because the cover drew me in. So beautiful.

Ugly cover: The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith. Eh. I’m just not a fan. I find it a little predictable and boring.

A national book/An international book

I’m guessing this means a book that takes place where you live versus a book that takes place in another country.

National: Eve The Awakening by Jenna Moreci. This book takes place at a college in California.

International: Harry Potter. Sorry for the obvious answer but, hey, it works.

 A thin book/A thick book

A thin book: Wake by Lisa McMan

A thick book: A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

A fiction book/A non-fiction book

Fiction: Cinder by Marissa Meyer. A fairytale retelling with sci-fi elements, which I haven’t read yet, because I am so far behind on my TBR. Are you surprised? I’m guessing not. 😛

Non-Fiction: Creation Basics & Beyond by a lot of scientists at th Institute of Creation Research. A really interesting look at science from a biblical stand point.

Very romantic book/Action book

I don’t own a ton of romantic books, but I will go with Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. The main plot of this series is love, so it fits, I guess.

Action…I will go with Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It’s about criminals trying to pull off the greatest heist. Action packed!

A book that made you happy/A book that made you sad

A book that made me happy: I want to go with Illuminae again. Not because it’s a super happy story, but because it was such a good book, I’m still on a high and I read it almost a year ago. Haha.

A book that made me sad…I will go with another non-fiction on my shelf. My Story by Elizabeth Smart. Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped by two pretty sick individuals and she writes about what happened during that time. Ugh…such a difficult book to read.

That’s all I have for you tonight. Good news everyone, tomorrow is Thursday. We are very close to Friday! Don’t forget to let me know if you participate in the tag. I will have another movie review for you next blog, so stay tuned for that!

You can still read Chapter One of Alter Reach here.

Reader Problems Book Tag

Hello everyone! Two blog posts in one day – unheard of! I’m really trying to get back on my game of writing consistently, so here I am. 😛

This is a tag I found on Katytastic’s YouTube channel – check it out. If you want to answer the questions, I tag you. Let me know you did it so I can read your answers! 🙂

QUESTIONS

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

I don’t really have a strategy for this. I normally just look at my shelf and grab a book that sticks out to me. The only time I pick a specific book is if I am reading through a series. For example, the Hunger Games – I read the books, one after another.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

Sometimes I quit, sometimes I commit to the end. If I am reaching the “exciting” portion of the book and still not loving it, I put it down. There have been times when I was reading a book and thinking about putting it down, but I powered through and ended up loving the book. This is rare though.
3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your GoodReads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

I set unrealistic GoodReads reading challenges for myself, but I try to catch up by reading as much as possible whenever I have a chance.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

This bothers me so much…but I still buy the un-matching book because I am not satisfied until I have the entire series on my shelf.

5. Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

I don’t really have anyone to bond over my shared hatred of certain books…except maybe my husband, but he isn’t really into the books I’m into so that doesn’t always work. I just look up YouTube reviews and try to find people who have similar opinions.

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

I leave said public setting and finish reading the tear-worthy section. If I’m in a situation that I can’t leave, I’m normally not reading.

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?!?

Sometimes I re-read the book, sometimes I find a synopsis. It depends on how long it’s been since I read the prior book. Normally, I start reading a series after all the books have come out anyway, so I’m not in this situation often.

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

I let people borrow books once and a while, but it has to be someone I trust. I love my books, don’t get me wrong, but if it’s a story I think people should read, I am happy to let them read it.

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

This is me, right now. I try to power through it by picking a book that I have been excited to read. This normally helps me to get back into it.

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

I only spend money when I know I can..so I suffer through wanting all the books until I can either afford them or ask for them for Christmas 🙂

11. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

It depends on where I am on my TBR list. Sometimes the new book is at the top, and sometimes it’s a little farther down. I only buy a book if it’s in the top 5 of my reading TBR unless I’m buying from a used book store and find something that just interests me.

Well, there it is. Last post for today, but I’m hoping I will be better about posting now. Thanks for sticking with me! 🙂

You can still read Chapter One of Alter Reach here.
