April Goals

Hi everyone!

Happy Saturday. I can’t believe tomorrow is Easter, and the first day of April. This year is already flying by.

In the beginning of March, I posted my goals for the month. Today, I would like to discuss how well I did, and set new goals for April. Here we go.

March Goals Wrap Up

1. Get more sleep.

I did really well with this one until my abdominal pain started acting up. Hopefully, I can get back on track.

2. Review a few of the books I’ve read over the last two months.

I made some progress on this, but my TBR pile grows every day.

3. Alter Reach: more self-edits, and start recruiting beta readers.

I made progress with Alter Reach – this will be an ongoing goal.

4. Try one new recipe a week.

Nope. Failed. Oh well.

5. Write a blog post every other day.

I pretty much did this. There were a couple missed days, but I made them up, and am happy to call this goal accomplished.

I think I did pretty well with my March Goals and am looking forward to April being even more productive.

April Goals

1. Make more progress on Alter Reach.

Like I said, this will be ongoing until the book is released.

2. Read from the Bible, nightly.

I’m trying to be more involved with our Church, but before I can do that, I need to study the source a bit more.

3. Work out at least 30 minutes a day.

I need to get my beach body ready. πŸ˜‚

4. Read and review more books.

I’d love to put another dent in my TBR in April.

5. Update Twitter more often.

I feel like I’ve been neglecting Twitter, which is bad because it has been a pretty useful tool.

What are some of your goals for April? Let me know!

Have a fantastic Saturday!

March Goals

Hi everyone!

Can you believe it is almost March? It is crazy how time flies. I feel like it’s time to bring back my monthly goals post. I’ve been having trouble keeping up with everything I need to get done, and getting overwhelmed. I think setting 5 realistic goals a month will help calm the anxiety a bit.

Here we go. πŸ™‚

1. Get more sleep.

This has been a struggle. There is not enough time at night to get everything done that I want to, so I end up staying up too late. I’m going to try to change that, and start going to bed earlier.

2. Review a few of the books I’ve read over the last two months.

I have so many books to review and finish, I don’t even want to think about it. I’m not going to get completely caught up in a month, but I think I can make progress.

3. Alter Reach: more self-edits, and start recruiting beta readers.

I’m so excited to further my progress with Alter Reach. I’m going to try to get as much of this goal done in March, but this one will definitely carry over into April.

4. Try one new recipe a week.

I’ve been setting this goal for myself every month for a LONG time. I really want to do this, and I think I’m motivated!

5. Write a blog post every other day.

I’ve been doing pretty well keeping up, but I know I can do better.

There you have it. I will update you on my success at the end of the month. Do you have any goals for March? Let me know in the comments. Have a great day!

Looking Ahead to 2018

Hi there! Happy New Year’s Eve! I did a “Looking Back at 2017” post earlier this month. You can find it here.

2017 was a great year. I learned a lot about who I am (personally and as a writer), I made mistakes, I laughed, I cried…but in the end, it was the best it could be. I really feel like 2018 is going to be even better. What I learned in 2017 will carry me into 2018, and I can’t wait to see what is in store.

I want to take a moment and thank all of you who read my blog. It is incredible to feel like people have an interest in what you say. What started as a hobby has become something much more, and I am so thankful.

Here’s to an amazing 2018! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

My 2018 Goals

1. Publish Alter Reach – I’ve set this goal for two straight years, but this is going to happen in 2018.

2. Write more poetry – what I have shared with you on this blog are poems that were written throughout high school and college. I would love to get back into it with a new (happier) perspective.

3. Read 50 books – I set a higher goal last year and didn’t come close. I dropped the goal a bit so I can mark this as achieved at the end of the year. It isn’t like I don’t have a mile long TBR list or anything…😊

4. Reach my next follower goal on this blog – I was able to reach my first 100 followers in 2017, which was huge for me. I’m not going to reveal what my goal until I hit it, but I’m excited to see if it happens!

5. Write a blog post at least every other day – I’ve been able to blog once a day for the last couple of weeks because I’ve unfortunately been out of work, sick. I’d still like to update as frequently as possible, and I think every other day is reasonable.

6. Lose weight- I know, I know. This is on everyone’s list, every year. I’d like to take some boxing classes and eat a little healthier. That’s all.

7. Be more involved at Church. My husband and I have been talking about this more recently, and we would like go get involved, so we are looking into different possibilities.

8. Date night with hubby at least once a week- it’s so easy to get wrapped up in life and let time slip by. I have the most incredible husband and I want to make sure we don’t let that happen. 😊

9. Travel somewhere fun – We’ve been lucky enough to take a small trip every year. I’d like to do that again this year.

10. Be happy and healthy! 😁

Tonight, Paul and I will be ringing in the New Year with movies and snacks.

What are some of your goals for 2018? What are your plans for tonight?

I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve! Please be safe and have fun! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

September TBR

Hey there, Happy Thursday. I have a very long list of books to read on my shelf. As a writer, I think one of the most important things to do is read. I’m going to try something new, and see if it helps me work through my TBR list a little quicker. At the beginning of the month, I am going to select 4 books I would like to complete. I will do reviews on each book after completion, and at the end of the month, I will do a wrap up on my success.

September TBR (in no particular order):

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo

Passenger – Alexandra Bracken

Days of Blood & Starlight (Book 2 in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy) – Laini Taylor

Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Book 3 in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy) – Laini Taylor

Let me know what your September reading plans are.

Jessica’s Monthly Goals

Happy Saturday! Today is Canal Days in the town I live in. It’s a great event where they block off streets and have live music, food and vendors. Really looking forward to it.

I’m planning on posting two blogs today. I figured it was time to do my monthly goals. May kind of got away from me, so my results might be a little painful.

May Results:

  1. Post 3 blogs per week including my weekly Poetry post. – I failed miserably at this. Sorry about that. I will make this a goal for June as well.
  2. Get some pictures of myself taken by hubby. – Another fail to add to the list. Not starting off great, am I? Haha.
  3. Go to Church every Sunday. – Almost did this, so I’m giving myself a half of a point.
  4. Update Twitter & Facebook four times a week. – I think I did this!
  5. Cook one new recipe a week. – Not sure it was one a week but I tried some new recipes this month, so I will call this completed.
  6. Maintain a happy, healthy environment for our new fish kids. – This is happening. 😊
  7. Read 4 books (or more). – Nope.
  8. Lose 5lbs. – Nope.
  9. Read from the Bible nightly. – Nope.
  10. Write a new piece of poetry. – Nope.

GOALS COMPLETED:  3.5 out of 10

Jessica’s Monthly GoalsΒ

Hey Everyone!

Happy Friday!!!! I can’t express how happy I am, it has been a long week.

For this blog, I wanted to start something new. My plan is to tell you at the beginning of each month, 10 solid goals I would like to accomplish, and then at the end of the month, tell you if I succeeded or failed. I need a little bit more planning in my life if I ever want to accomplish the things I’ve set out to do. So, without further adieu, here’s my April Monthly Goals.

  1. Complete Camp NaNoWriMo. – I have a rough goal of 25,000 words, but my main goal is to finish Alter Reach.
  2. Post 3 blogs per week (including Jessica’s Weekly Poetry Post).
  3. Clean out/organize under my kitchen cupboards (yes, there will be non-writer goals!)
  4. Start looking into editors (if you have any suggestions, let me know!) and pricing out my options.
  5. Start looking into cover designers (if you have any suggestions, let me know!) and pricing out my options.
  6. Get some “professional” photos of myself taken. (By professional, I mean have my husband take some nice portraits of me.)
  7. Clean out/organize my closet and donate things I don’t need.
  8. Go to Church every Sunday.
  9. Update Twitter and Facebook more often.
  10. Plan a nice Birthday for my hubby (his Birthday is the 27th!)

Okay, I think that’s a pretty solid list of writing and non-writer goals. Wish me luck in completing them!

That is all I have for you today.

You can read Chapter One of Alter Reach here.
